RemSense Technologies
virtualplant was a promising proof of concept that needed to become a product customers could buy, fast.
The problem
virtualplant lets people walk through an industrial facility remotely, from a photogrammetric digital twin. It ran as a proof of concept on a single server. Commercial demand was imminent, each new customer meant manual setup, and the team needed a repeatable way to plan and release.
What we did
Rebuilt the product as a fully serverless SaaS application, with each customer isolated in its own AWS account and signing in through their own identity provider. Set up guardrails and a CI/CD pipeline. Coached the team in sprints, branching and release policy, and wrote the product playbook with them. Worked with RemSense's compliance officer to document backup, encryption and disaster recovery, so the product could earn AWS Qualified Software status.
What's simpler now
- Live in production within a few months, at a fraction of the previous running cost.
- Deployments in minutes rather than weeks.
- Customer sign-on set up in minutes.
- The team plans, estimates and releases on its own, from a playbook it helped write.
The brand-new and improved version of virtualplant introduces a range of development and architecture best practices that have allowed us to transform our offering into a highly replicable and secure SaaS product.
