About KZN
KZN Group is a customer obsessed lean start-up that adopts the best bits of enterprise practices and has a passion for continuously improving (it’s in our name after all!). We are Western Australia’s first “born in the cloud” Amazon Web Services (AWS) Consulting Partner and whilst we are small, our ambitions and our clients are not. We are growing quickly and we are looking for talented and intelligent people to join us on the journey. You must be an adaptable self-starter who gets things done and sees things through to completion – even when it seems like the universe is conspiring against you! You should be creative, a pragmatic problem solver and comfortable innovating. Oh, and an engaging personality and sense of humour will go a long way.
What you’ll do
- Develop software in C/C++ to run on microcontrollers (ESP32, Cortex-M3, etc) that will solve our customers’ problems.
- Take a deep dive in to the domain - understanding the maths of Digital Signal Processing and application specific theory.
- Use LoRaWAN to deliver telemetry and receive command and control from AWS.
- Troubleshoot hardware/firmware problems with multimeters, logic analysers and oscilloscopes.
- Debug low level protocols such as SPI and I2C.
- Solve embedded problems such as heap and stack sizes.
- Create automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
- Develop telemetry ingests in the cloud using AWS serverless technologies.
What you’ll need to be passionate about
- Gaining a deep understanding of what you’re delivering - from the business intent to the mathematical theory to the application code.
- Exploring research problems thoroughly and documenting the outcomes.
- Independent on the job learning.
- Optimising, automating and continuously improving
What you’ll need to demonstrate to be considered for the role
- An interest in IoT/embedded solutions, including through hobby projects using Raspberry Pis or ESP32’s.
- Experience working in a UNIX / Linux command-line environment.
- Experience in one or more of the following languages: C/C++; Rust; Python.
- Experience with DVCS systems such as Git or Mercurial
- A strong alignment to our values and operating principles (we’ll be testing and measuring that too)
- An ability to manage change and embrace new challenges with a positive, ‘can do attitude’ and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- An ability to tenaciously get things done, with minimal supervision and cajoling – especially if you want to maximise the flexible working options
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with our team, our customers and our business partners alike, using your authentic and engaging personality
It won’t hurt if you have
- Commercial experience building IoT products at scale.
- Experience developing automated test suites and deploying code in a repeatable, rigorous fashion.
- A cool open source project you’ve been working on.
- A tin foil hat – experience with penetration testing, reverse engineering, playing or building security CTFs.
- Experience with one (or more) of the public clouds, in particular AWS.
What we offer
- Collaborative Lean-Agile process environment where everyone’s voice is heard and opinion is valued
- Opportunity to become an expert for Cloud technologies
- A genuinely varied and challenging role that is guaranteed to take you out of your comfort zone
- A culture that rewards innovation and isn’t afraid to fail fast – failing is a vital part of success after all
- A funky central CBD office with end of trip facilities and a well stocked fridge
- Truly flexible working hours and time-off in lieu (TOIL) when you need to burn the midnight oil to hit those big deadlines
- Guaranteed growth and development through a combination of formal and informal training and mentoring
- Regular social events
- Really smart colleagues
- And there’s more in the pipeline as we grow
